New Orleans Aquarium
The Aquarium of the Americas, operated by the Audubon Institute, is a fairly new addition to New Orleans. This is a great place to come in out of the weather and enjoy some time with the family. Creatures from across the Americas are on display in a variety of interesting and educational settings. One of the most impressive exhibitions is a Caribbean reef that visitors can view from under water! A 30-foot long tunnel gives safe and dry access to this 132,000 gallon tank. Most of the exhibition areas are divided geographically: the Gulf of Mexico, the Mississippi River and the Amazon Rainforest, in addition to the Caribbean Reef.
Special habitats for otters and penguins are popular spots, especially for children. The Aquarium also hosts temporary exhibits on a rotating basis, so there is something new to see with each visit. Special pricing plans are available in conjunction with your admission to the Audubon Zoo, and you can even take a boat cruise between the two attractions.
