New Orleans Cuisine
Like most cities that cater to tourists, New Orleans has wide variety of restaurants to sample. However, unlike most other tourist destinations, the Big Easy has a long tradition of outstanding cuisine. Much of what you taste here can't be found anywhere else. Food in New Orleans doesn't just mean dinner. Get up early one morning and head over to Cafe du Monde on Jackson Square for a traditional breakfast of cafe au lait and beignets.
For dinner, you have to try some of the local Cajun delicacies. Yes, it is spicy - the flavors literally explode in your mouth. Olivier's Creole Restaurant and Hillery's On Toulouse are two of the city's top restaurants for local favorites. K-Paul is admittedly a bit over-hyped, but the combination of old school Cajun with international influences will be a meal you won't soon forget.
Away from the French Quarter you will find several 5-star restaurants on Magazine Street in the Warehouse. Try Rio Mar for fresh seafood with a Spanish flair, or if you prefer a little celebrity you might try Emeril's.
